Subsea production systems are one of the oil and gas industry's most challenging areas of operation. To meet the needs of these complex systems, Castrol has  added a new generation of hydraulic control fluid to the Transaqua product line: Castrol Transaqua SP-HC.

What is Transaqua SP-HC?

Castrol Transaqua SP-HC is a hydraulic control fluid specially developed for use in subsea production control systems. It can be used in Electro-Hydraulic Multiplex (EH-Mux) and direct hydraulic control systems. It is particularly  ideal for high-pressure and deep-water gas projects above 20,000 psi (1379 bar).

What Problems Does It Solve?

Among the most common problems encountered in submarine control systems are the following:

  • Risk of hydrate formation
  • Corrosion and material wear
  • Contamination (mixture with seawater and other liquids)
  • Extreme temperature changes

Transaqua SP-HC increases the safety and efficiency of the system thanks to its superior formulation developed to meet these challenges.

Technical Highlights

  • Corrosion protection: Resistant to up to 30% seawater contamination in tests on carbon steel surfaces.
  • Wide temperature range: can work from -50°C to +150°C. Thanks to its low pour point, it ensures that the system continues to operate even in cold environments.
  • High contamination tolerance: compatible with contaminants such as seawater and top-up brine up to 50%.
  • Material compatibility: Compatible with common system components in accordance with API 17F standards.
  • Easy changeover:  It can be mixed with other products in the Transaqua range, making system changes or modernization very easy.
